Nanobioengineering is an unique field of study, at present, the only one in Poland. It is expected to be a prioritised research field and a lever for economical development on a global scale, thus UTP endeavours to support this area effectively.

Nanobioengineering foto1What you can learn – you will be prepared to operate efficiently on the point of contact between modern technological solutions and methods used in experimental biology. You will be ready to perform interdisciplinary tasks requiring cooperation with specialists from other areas of study. Your asset will be the ability to implement your knowledge in mathematics and physics in practise, especially in the aspect of nano (10-9) materials science, information technology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, plant bioengineering (including cell biology and development, molecular genetics, genetic engineering, in vitro cultures and bionics) in order to create new technological and  industrial solutions. You will gain a thorough understanding of biochemical, molecular and cellular basis for the functions of living organisms as well as processes taking place on the level of single atoms and molecules. You will acquire skills in experimental work using biological material. You will learn how to apply nanoparticles and nanostructures in plant production. You will be instructed to use research devices and appliances in order to stimulate biotechnological and nanobiotechnological processes. You will be acquainted with modern methods and measurement tools in terms of nanoscale, including high resolution microscopy. You will have an opportunity to learn a foreign language on B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages, which will enable you to use specialised language in the field of nanobioengineering. You will be prepared to undertake 2nd cycle studies (leading to master’s degree).

Nanobioengineering foto2Where and what kind of work is there for you – on successful graduation in the field of nanobioengineering, you will be qualified to undertake engineering and technological jobs in different commercial branches involved in bionanomaterials and nanomaterials production. You may be employed in industrial units, research-developmental and analytical laboratories dealing with plant bioengineering including in vitro cultures, microbiology, in nanobiotechnical businesses concerned with bioactive substances production, molecular diagnostics of biological material, modern plant cultivation and conservation and in agricultural, food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. You may also find employment in supervisory and controlling institutions, civil service and consulting companies.

Where you will studythe studies in the field of nanobioengineering are run at the Faculty of Agriculture and Biotechnology and the Institute of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Technology and Life Sciences. The premises of the Faculty of Agriculture and Biotechnology are in the city centre at Bernardyńska Street. Some classes are also conducted in other faculty units situated at Kordeckiego Street and in the Institute of Mathematics and Physics in the Fordon Campus.

Nanobioengineering foto3What you will study – to begin with, courses in humanities including industrial safety, ergonomy,  economy and other courses broadening your general knowledge. You will be offered a 4-semester language course and 2 semesters of physical education. You will learn the basics of information technology i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, databases, managerial and/ or presentation graphics, etc., then the subjects essential for the field of nanobioengineering – mathematics, physics, chemistry, experimental biology, nanobiotechnology, bioengineering and nanotechnology.

How long you will study – the study field of nanobioengineering leading to BSc is run in 3,.5-year full time mode. You will be able to undertake interesting practice in Poland and/ or abroad and implement a part of your studies at a partner university in Poland within the framework of MOSTAR programme and abroad, participating in ERASMUS+ programme.

Are you looking for something more? – beginning from semester V and depending on your interests, you can chooses subjects within given educational modules. Module 1 is focused on broadening knowledge in biological processes, conducting experiments on biological material, using molecular biology and genetic engineering technologies. Module 2 will enable you to implement, in extended terms, your knowledge in mathematics and physics, in the nano aspect in creating super-new technological solutions.
